Hari Raya is just around the corner. Today is my turn to write something here (thanks 100Penulis) so I would like to share about Kuih Makmur.
Kuih Makmur is a must have in Sabah during the Hari Raya celebration. Or in another words, Kuih Makmur and Hari Raya cannot be separated. There is no real recipe for this cookie, that’s why the taste is different with each baker. Some bakers like to add their own ingredient into the recipe, for example nestum and corn flakes.
The cookie is my favorite during Hari Raya and my spirit will go down if I didn’t see Kuih Makmur on the table, hahahaha. So, my dear friends please make sure you have that cookie if you invite me on your Hari Raya open house…just kidding! My sisters also love this cookie very much. We are not Muslim but sometimes we baked it together just for fun.
Makmur means prosperity in Malay and the cookies are named so because in those days, ghee the main ingredient for it is not that accessible to everyone and was very expensive. Serving this cookie therefore was considered a symbol of status.

i think i used to really like kuih makmur. then somehow it became a little hard to buy them (yeah my family dont make our own kuih).. and after a few years i kinda forgot about it. its nice to be reminded again

p/s: Mine would be Semprit. Raya wouldn't as awesome as always without the awesomeness of Semprit.

saya tak gemar kuih ni, tapi suka tengok kalau ada atas meja sebab kuih ni salah satu kuih raya tradisi kot. :)

sy tak berapa suka cookies. n yang saya benci makan kuih makmur ni bila maker dia buat besar sgt lepas tu kalau tepung dia melekat di lelangit dlm mulut atau habuk2 dia terkeluar sikit dr mulut. pengalaman *sigh*
